Was originally planning on getting SE next, then last point on PT. TRB 4 lyfe, though I find that it's been powercreeped by other DDs that have better concealed torps. There are other useful tricks the TRB can help with as long as a player can adapt to the lack of smoke, which for stealth IJN torpedo boat DDs is not all that hard to get used to. What I suspect is that the majority of people simply don't have the awareness to consistently land torps, and for these people the ability to do consistent gun damage from smoke makes the Fletcher better. Is inertial fuze good for a IJN 120mm gun at tier V, or should I go with the DE for more fires? IJN DD smoke is long enough for you to solo cap in Domination matches, assuming nothing interrupts the cap. Items to note: I intend to move the captain up to the Yugumo when I unlock her in approximately 40K XP. If you do, all you need is EM to make those turrets turn faster. I run TRB, if you play it right you can do well even in a CV match, you just have to be extra vigilant on where the enemy CVs planes are and where your support ships are. It's difficult to directly compare a Khaba to any other destroyer, they have completely different roles, but just because it does 13k more average damage than the next destroyer does not make it OP. I'm definitely not saying that the Yugumo is better at everything than the Fletcher. Too many players spam torps from range, beyond radar range as a minimum and have poor results. Sending 16 instead of 8 is often the difference between a dodge and a secured kill. Leaderboards, ships statistics and configurations, ranked and team battles and much much more Small sample size, but in about 8 or so battles since the patch I haven't lost and haven't done under 100k. Jap DDs need a torp buff in their concealment I believe, that or their speed. There is a catch, torpedos are Asashio DWT. Here's my question though: Go full torp/stealth build with trb no smoke but with RL. Smoke is important for gunboat Yugumo to break contact. And if you do use TRB, it is highly recommended to get RPF. share. The plethora of radar ships and Hydro DDs make me wish I had picked TRB, and then when I pick TRB, there is a CV match. My Kagero captain has no skills to buff the guns, only the torpedoes, and I dont have the doubloons to redistribute his points. I have been going to a smoke build with the F3s. I started this build back when players were moaning over the death of DDs in the CV rework.

I have every IJN DD so any good captain build advice is welcome. At least use Shimakaze if you plan to use booster with no smoke, and use the 20km torp.

So I recently unlocked the Yūgumo, the tier 9 Japanese torpedo boat. Don't forget that if you take a TRB Yugumo and there's a semi-competent CV on the enemy team... You are useless. ∞ 3 torpedoes offer a boost in damage and increased flexibility due to the improved range, and should be researched first.

(Minekaze has already fast torpedo reload. From what Ive read from the wiki, it has fairly decent guns. And some gunboat DDs like Kidd and Cossack have very competitive concealment, so RPF helps prevent you from running headlong into one of them and getting wiped. I have been bouncing back and forth between smoke and TRB recently, and a lot of times I find myself wishing I had smoke when I had TRB and vice versa.
